In March 2011 Shaila Visser was diagnosed with Cryptococcal Gattii, a life-threatening disease also known as fungal meningitis. For five and a half weeks her life hung in the balance.
On Good Friday Shaila’s pastor laid hands on her and prayed for healing. Shaila was on very strong medication to attack the fungal ball that had attached itself to her brain. On the Tuesday following the Easter weekend she had a scheduled MRI to see if the growth had grown or reduced in size. “They had also told us in advance that even when this ball has disappeared off my brain there will always be a scar… that the medication leaves a scar,” says Shaila.
“That Tuesday I went in for the MRI. On Wednesday I got the results. The doctor came in and said, ‘Great news! The fungal ball has completed disappeared. There’s not even a scar.’ And he had no explanation for it. To me, that is a miracle."
